Bob Rollins had built the original Friendship with his father, Ralph in the 1930's. They developed an amazing bond while working side by side on the sailboat. By the 1950's Bob had a new dream - to build a new Friendship and race the yacht in the Transpac Race - a 2,557-mile sailboat race from Los Angeles to Honolulu. Bob wanted his family to share an experience like his father had gifted him. Friendship started as a family project. Over time friends and neighbors began to share in the dream.
